About Our Team:

We are a reliable and professional company committed to ensuring every guest receives not only an amazing fishing trip but also a memorable Patagonia experience. We work tirelessly to ensure no detail is missed and that you feel at home, even thousands of miles away.

Koon Outfitters was founded in 2013 by Andrés Mickman, after years of working at some of the region’s most respected lodges. The goal was simple: to offer truly tailored trips and multi-destination programs built around each traveler’s vision. Since then, Koon has grown into one of Chile’s most reputable outfitters, with a deep knowledge of the land and a genuine passion for sharing it.

Andres Mickman Letelier

Andrés is a professional Civil Industry Engineer by training. He arrived in Patagonia during his university studies. During this period, he started guiding professionally for several lodges and outfitters in the region. Andrés decided to follow his dream and became a full-time fly-fishing guide. He left the capital of Santiago and his career as an engineer to start his own outfitting business. He married his wife Camila in Coyhaique where they have lived now together for the last 10 years. Andrés remains the leader of Koon Outfitters fly fishing operations and has used his extensive experience in the region to put on the best fly-fishing trips offered. Andrés this days split his time guiding in Chile and during the opposite season at Mongolia for Mongolia River Outfitters and Fish Mongolia.

Cooper Pickney

Cooper grew up in Florida between saltwater and fishing rods — a passion that never left him. Over the years, that obsession took him across the American West and all the way to Alaska, guiding and honing his craft on every river he crossed. Today, he guides full time in Jackson Hole with Snake River Anglers. Off the water, he is an accomplished fly tier with multiple competition wins and a regular presence at the renowned One Fly Contest.

Lucas Becker

Lucas Becker is a fishing guide born and raised in Chilean Patagonia, with a lifetime spent on the waters of the Aysén Region. His days are mostly defined by the river — guiding fly fishing trips across Chile or leading whitewater expeditions in North America. When he’s not on the water, you’ll find him building boats, scouting new rivers, or looking for the next adventure just around the bend.

Carlos Dinamarca

Carlos is a seasoned guide who has been part of the Koon family since day one. More than a collaborator, he’s a true friend — and that bond shows in every trip he leads. His experience, warmth, and deep knowledge of the water make him an invaluable part of what we do.

Jaime Romero

Our head chef and the go-to man for every expedition outside of Coyhaique.

At Koon, our priority is that every experience is as memorable as it is safe. Andrés and the team are committed to looking after you every step of the way. Andrés holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, so you can rest assured you’re in great hands should any situation arise. He is also a certified professional fishing guide through Universidad Gabriela Mistral since 2004 — a background that brings real knowledge, passion, and peace of mind to every trip we take together.

Koon Outfitters is a member of the Association of guides of the Patagonia “AGPE” and the national register of providers of tourist services of SERNATUR.
